Saxon 220.127.116.11 adds whitespace for <xsl:text>Mystring</xsl:text> as "

I am using Saxon 18.104.22.168 to transform a xml. My xslt contains
<xsl:text>Mystring</xsl:text> inside an attribute .
The value of attribute is rendered as
" while debugging and
" Mystring " in html output.
Note that there is no space in between outer text nodes and string in the xslt. Also
<xsl:value-of select="'Mystring'"/> solves the issue.
I am still confused as to what went wrong with the old code
